This Holiday season the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is collecting gifts for our four legged friends at the Outer Banks SPCA. Contributions of dry dog and puppy food, dry cat and kitten food, toys for both dogs and cats, rawhides, blankets kitty litter, pillow cases and dog shampoo are welcomed. Donations of 7 pounds of food will give that individual free admission to the Aquarium at the time of the donation.

Starting December 3, 2007 contributions and donations may be dropped off at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island at 374 Airport Road between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Sunday. For more information call 252-473-3494
Behind the Scenes Tours
Sneak a peek behind the scenes at the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. By taking a “Behind the Scenes Tour” accompanied by an Aquarium educator, visitors will see the tanks and the systems that keep them working, from a side normally viewed only by staff. Learn how and what the animals are fed, get an up close and personal look at how the aquarists do their jobs.

Catch a Crab!
Come to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island; take a class on how to “Catch a Crab.” Blue crabs live in the waters that surround the Outer Banks. Participants will learn some basic biology of the blue crab, experience the tug of a crab on their line as they try to take the bait, cook the legal catch, and sample an Outer Banks favorite. Bring the entire family for the experience of a lifetime.

Fee Programs
Each year thousands of visitors enjoy the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. Many participate in programs and activities such as, “Breakfast with the Rays,” and “Snack with the Sharks.” These programs give families the opportunity to learn about the Aquariums animals and their habitats.
Participants will be able to feed the stingrays at the touch tanks and will get an up close look as the fish and sharks are fed behind the scenes of the Graveyard of the Atlantic exhibit.
