The NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island was an ideal setting for a partnership event between the Aquarium and the Dare Education Foundation!
The community was invited to attend a “Dinner with Mel Levine,” which culminated a day of staff development activities for teachers in Dare County Schools. Dr. Levine, a renown University of North Carolina professor and pediatrician, has been instructing Dare educators in his “Schools Attuned” program, focusing on methods of teaching to different learning styles.
The Aquarium was the perfect venue for the dinner and lecture. The “Coastal Freshwater” and “Wetlands on the Edge” exhibit areas were enjoyed by all during the reception. Guests ate dinner under the sea with the backdrop of the 285,000-gallon “Graveyard of the Atlantic” exhibit, inhabited by 25 species of fish, including a sand tiger shark. In the Aquarium’s Neptune’s Theater, the capacity-audience of 180 heard Dr. Levine’s presentation about transitioning students into the work force.
The evening was a complete success, due in large part to the efforts of Aquarium Director J.P. McCann, Weekend and Events Coordinator Michele Bunce and other Aquarium staff who assisted the foundation members in hosting the event.
With warmest regards,
Nancy Birindelli

Our staff and guests enjoyed the opportunity to dine in one of the prettiest settings possible. It made for a very enjoyable and relaxing evening. The Aquarium is truly an asset to this region and you are to be commended for your work in keeping a facility of this nature in pristine condition. The dinner and meeting flowed very smoothly.

Thank you for hiring such great staff at the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island. At the recent Annual Conference of the NC Association of Municipal Clerks, the host clerks had the pleasure of meeting and working with Aquarium staff. The staff worked hard to make it a memorable evening and we heard nothing but positive comments from the other Clerks.
